Seeing as you put in a new cam on your car.. how difficult a task do you think this would be to do (without the rest of the stuff you did). Is it a job that could be done in a weekend?? If I am not mistaken, you just need to remove the radiator, take off the valve covers, remove the rockers/pushrods, etc.. then take off the timing chain, pull out the old cam.. put in the new, and put her back together.. is this about right?? Or does the motor need to be pulled??
I'm not impersonating, but, you'd have to pull the motor mounting bolts and get the motor up just a hair to clear the frame crossmember. :yesnod:
Darn.. I figured I might.. my manual says it can be done without taking the engine out.. but it sure didnt look like it could to me.. oh well.. hope my brother in law has an engine lift in his garage!!
If you just need to raise it a little you might get by with a piece of lumber under the oil pan and a floor jack, after you loosen the motor & tranny mounts.
Since the lifters are held in orientation by the "spider" woun't you also need to access the valley; which means the intake comes off too?

Yeah.. forgot about the intake.. but that isnt too terribly difficult to remove (figure the radiator will be harder)
When installing my cam I just pulled out the right side mount bolt and jacked up that side. Just between the exhaust and the block there is a small ledge machined into the block, I put a piece of 2x4 up under the ledge and jacked it up. Make sure you remove the exhaust studs from the bottom of each manifold, I had more than enough room to remove and install my cam.
Not Scorp, but hope it helps
The guys got you covered. :) I actually had to "drop" the back of my engine to get cam clearance. I had the tranny out at the same time, so undoing an engine mount only would allow me to push the nose of the engine down.
It can be done in a weekend IF you have every tool, gasket, fluid, part, etc you need and spend the ENTIRE weekend doing it with some help. :) Get a darn good service manual also.
Thanks guys.. this will probably not happen till mid July, but am definatly planning on the upgrade (gotta do my weatherstripping first, to keep my carpet from rotting!!)
