Guys seem to like both here. Lots have installed Hookers. Scorp would be the most recent to install the headers. He went with 1"3/4. Other than they're a litttttle close to the oiling area..I don't think He had a problem.
I'm sure they'll chime in. I have LPE's and they're fine for me.

Re: Headers. Hookers or Tpis? (corvette0096)
Can't speak for the Hookers (I'm sure they're fine) but I just installed a set of TPIS with no problems. Everything hooked like it was supposed to. I had a small problem with the Y pipe they sent me...it was tight going over the CAT fitting but a quick trip to the corner muffler shop and 10 seconds on their flange machine, expanded the rear opening by about 1/8th of an inch and off we went. I know the ceramic coating is supposed to reduce heat and extend the life but anyone who has seen them have said the same thing...they look cool  :)
So there is no issues with the ac brackets with the TPIS? I know Scorp said that his are really close to the oil cooler. I just want some thing to fit without any hang ups..
Hookers do not allow for you to use the rear alternator bracket or the rear AC bracket w/o buying custom ones from them. I haven't gotten them yet, but plan on trying them.
What I liked about the TPIS is - they use the standard exhaust bolts with all brackets bolting up. The main issue I had was the spark plug boots. #7 was too close to the headers and burned through the boot. I corrected the problem with accel header plugs and the boot protectors.
On the '85 the rear alt bracket can eaisly be retained using one of the bolt spacers thats comes with the kit and the '85 ac must bolt up diff because mine bolts up just fine.
Hmm... I tried using hte spacers and they didn't fit alongside the primary. I'll have to try again. :)
One thing to think of is that the hooker y-pipe doesn't fit the 84 and 85 cat. Unless they make another pipe that I'm not aware of the one they sell slips on the cat and us 84 and 85 owners have a four bolt flange. TPIS is the only place that I know of that has a rear y-pipe that fits our four bolt flange.
I had headmen or how ever they spell it. They are junk!
I picked up a set of TPIS headers, have not installed them yet, but I think they will be a lot better as I dont have to fuss around with headers bolts, and trying to get my brackets set up right. The TPIS use the stock bolts as mentioned (So the stock brackets work too) , and get rid of half the headache with header bolts.
