I have an intermittent light ticking from the engine bay. It does it when idling and goes away as rpm increase.
I thought that it may be electrical from the plug wires as the previous owner made a mess when they were changed. Rerouting them, to the best that I could, so that they do not touch any metal or each other does not seem to get rid of it.
I will sometimes get a low oil warning when starting but if I turn the engine off and restart the warning does not come back on. I am thinking that it may be a lifter.
Get a mechanic's stethoscope $10 at harbor freight $20 from snap-on. Pull the fuel rail covers and listen to the injectors too.
IMO 1992 was a bad year for oil level sensors. I replaced my wife's car's and all is well. somone else recently reported pulling and cleaning one with good results.
Dont want to hijack the thread, but is it normal for the injectors to make noise?
Your valves could also need adjustment. Sometimes the rockers get a little loose.
How on earth did you route your wires so that they didnt touch metal or each other? Curious because I am going to replace and reroute my wires.
I had purchased a set of wire standoffs for my 90 chevy dually that I wound up not needing. I used the plastic separator part midway between the opti and the factory standoffs at the front of the engine. They work fairly well keeping the wires in place and separated. The right side (passenger) was not too difficult but the left was a real pain.
On the sparks, Turn on the Vette at night inside your garage (pitch dark), open the hood and look for sparks. If you dont see any, keep looking. Im not going to write what a ticking noise could be because it can be various parts making that type of noise.
The stethoscope is a good idea and a great tool to have in your tool chest.

I learned that if you really want to check them, you should spray some water mist on them. I checked mine dry and they couldn't see anything, first rain storm and my car was running like crap from the moisture. I went out that night and misted them down and it looked like the northern lights under there! Now I know what I am doing this weekend.

Thanks for the tip on misting the wires. We got a lot of rain here today and it ran kind of rough on the way home. I will check them misted this weekend.
