Chip or no chip?
should the car run fine without getting a custom chip made? or is it necessary to get a custom chip made because of the heads/cam/etc?
Any help extremely appreciated!
There are a few places you can get one made:

People may know of cheaper/better places. TPiS has been dealing with the L98 for quite sometime though and I trust them over most.
Or you can begin the quest to tune your own chip. I have chosen to do this with my 87. It can be fun but very frustrating. But for early C4's it's only about $100 on chip burning equipment that looks like this:

Then you will need to attach a new reprogrammable chip to your MEMCAL. But you can find all of this fun stuff out by reading various forums.
But once again, you will most likely need a custom chip. And remember generic "Hypertech Stage II" chips will not help or fix the issue. You will need to tell someone exactly what has been done to the car so it can be made for your car. If they don't ask what has been done to it, you are wasting your money. Good Luck!
Custom tune certainly needed

Lots of duration but no lift to match the heads Not the most EFI friendly cam
