Default Oil change question

1989 6 speed almost 40k on it.

I drive the car year round, its mostly on shorter drives, The car goes about 2000 maybe 2500 miles at most a year. How often should I be doing oil changes? As of now i do it a 6 months and the oil looks brand new still.

with annual oil changes, but it's important to make sure that you get the oil up to normal operating temps at least on a few of the drives. That is especially important in the colder months where the moisture in the air is higher compared to the summer months.

Try to drive the car for at least 20 minutes after oil temps are up to about 10-15 degrees above normal coolant temps. That should be 190 to 210 for oil temps.

With coolant and oil up to temp, that will burn off any moisture inside the engine. That will keep sludge from forming and contaminants will be burned off. Same with the exhaust system; getting everything up to temp will burn away moisture in the exhaust system and that will prevent excessive rusting or corrosion.

I give the car a 5 minute warm up time before I drive. It goes for a 30min+ highway drive weekly.
