Default 90 Vert ECM Problems

Here is my story:
Sent my ECM to Automotive Electrical Solutions (AES) for diagnostic inspection and updating by incorporating the applicable GM Service Bulletins. At the time I sent it to them, the only problem I knew I had was the ECM not commanding the TC to lock up. The first time I got it back there was a part floating around in the cabinet. I removed the zif socket and was able to retrieve the part. I then reinstalled the zif and tried to start the car. The car would only idle with my assistance and was blowning out black smoke, shaking and the smell of fuel was quickly filling my garage. I thought maybe something happened to the eprom so I grabbed another eprom and flashed the current tune and tried again. No change.

I then sent the ECM back to AES along with the loose part. When I got the ECM back the second time, the loose part was plugged into my zif socket. When I saw this I thought great, that was the problem, wrong. When I started the car, it ran the same except the amount of black smoke was diminished a little but it was still there. This time I again tried two different eproms with my current tune. No improvement so I flashed an older tune and tried to start the car. Again, no improvement. So, I sent AES an email first thing this morning (Monday), gave them around 4 hours to reply, then had to leave voice mail since the email failed to get a response and my sales rep did not answer his phone. No call back by the close of business today. By now I am starting to get frustrated.

I have owned the car since 2004 and I have performed many, many mods throughout the years. At no time has the car ever run like this. Even when I went from the stock injectors to 60 lb/hr injectors. It certainly did not run like it does now prior to AES working on the ECM. To make sure no variables have been introduced into the equation, I have not so much as checked the oil or even given the car a sponge bath.

I am now not real comfortable in sending the ECM back to them again but at this point they have my $$ and I have an unusable car. So, I am asking if anyone knows of a reputable outfit that I could contact?

If you have made it this far, I appreciate you taking the time to read this post. If you have any thoughts or suggestions I would appreciate that even more.

Take care,
90Indy

The idle problem has been solved. It seems the ECM technician installed the factory prom in backwards. AES finally contacted me today and told me to remove my Moates board and flip the factory prom around. After doing this, the car started right up and idled fine. It seems to me the prom orientation would be on a checklist since it is not keyed and the car will not run if it is not installed corrrectly.

Unfortunately, I did not have time to test drive it to see if they fixed the TC lock-up command, which was the original reason I sent it to them. That will have to wait until I get home from work tonight.

Anyhow, all's well that ends well, at least up to this point.

Thanks,
