Well driving along today and the young lady in front of me missed her turn and slammed on the brakes basically causing me to do the same... What I noticed is the brakes did not lock up and the ABS did not kick in.... I tried several panic stops in an attempt to see if they would lock up...but only succeeded once...
There are no codes set.. (Scanned)The abs light illuminates on start up... Booster hold pressure after shut down for 5-6 pumps... pedal feels and reacts fine at lower speeds... Rear pads and rotors changed out by me a month ago(previous owner had brought parts).. Front pads are down a little more than half<--could this be an issue?
Do you hear the ABS pump cycle when you first start the 92 and reach about 4 mph? (only on first start)
If the brakes did not lock up it sounds like the ABS worked. Can you explain what you were expecting a little more?
Is there a gravel road you can do some panic stops from 20MPH on?
I'm not sure I even have an issue.. But in my newer cars a f350 dully and my wife's Siena the abs comes on pretty quick in a panick stop and seem to stop quicker.... My coupe did stop but Im pretty sure either of my newer cars would have stopped quicker..
Sounds like the ABS may be working properly. If so, the brakes will not lock up -- that is the purpose of the ANTI-LOCK braking system. Not sure what you mean about the other vehicles coming on quick in a panic stop. On the other hand, the standard 12 in. Corvette brakes from an almost 25 yrs old car may not stop it noticeably faster than the newer vehicles. In fact, I doubt my '88 Vette will stop as fast as my '93 Jag and maybe not as fast as my Avalanche without a load. Having said that, the impression I get of the 13 in. brakes is that they will stop noticeably faster.
