Should the sending unit in the waterpump be put in without any RTV?
When I removed it from the old pump it seemed to be clean no sealer in the threads.
Kizmo:
When I replaced my waterpump (last Saturday) I used teflon tape on the sending unit's threads. I also noted GM hadn't used anything, but I figured that since it was brass and the pump was aluminum, something was needed. It worked fine.

If the "sensor", (probably the fan switch), has two terminals inside, it does not use the case a the ground return. If it has a single terminal, it uses the block as the ground return and putting teflon tape on it may cause it to not make contact. This rarely happens because as you insert the "sensor" the threads cut through the teflon tape in several places and make contact with the block.
I guess you're talking about an LT1. The coolant temp sensor in the water pump has two terminals so I don't think it is grounded through the pump housing.
I used Permatex thread sealant, basically liquid teflon. HTH.
The manual calls for GM part # 1052080 or equivalent to be used on the threads of the CTS. I don't know what exactly "equivalent" means, but a quick call to the parts guys might supply the answer.
