Wire in fuse box?

I have a red wire connnected to the blade of a fuse on my 88 in the fuse compartment. Does anyone know what this is for?

Sounds like somebody did some "back yard" electrical work. Pull it out and see what you lose, then hard-wire it to a curcuit. Don't leave it there, it could heat up the box or cause a problem. When I was a teenager, I did stuff like that when I added some kind of electrical doo-dadd.

A good close-up picture would really help. Some aftermarket car alarms are installed like that. They tap into a convenient fuse for ignition on power.

yep...that was some aftermarket alarm or stereo that was added on. They will tap the hot side of the fuse panel (does no harm) since that side is hot always. Bar side. They install their own fuse inline, and complete the circuit to their equipment. Easier than finding a source to battery or some unknown hot-spot under the dash, and its right where you;d like to find the fuse for your new gadget.
