Default Cooling fan? Overheating Or?

Am I understanding this right. On my 86 Corvette (it came with no owners manuel). The main coolant fan, turns on only after 228 F?
That seems pretty high. I pulled over at 211 F, thinking she was going to overheat. What's considered overheating in my 86 Corvette, than?

Normal, stock setting.

Overheating....over 240 I'd say.
Its designed to get 90% of its cooling from movement, not the fan. So the fan comes on when you;re sitting a lot or in traffic as the temps creep up and no intake flow is available. As you move again and speed increases the temps drop again to somewhere in the 195-210 area. Normal. Also depends on the climate and ambient temps.

Wow, appreciated that. I thought, holy ****, I need to pull over and let it cool down. But, I guess 211 F isn't so bad after all in town. I might install a racing rad w/dual fans, later or a fan switch, to turn the fan on sooner.

Why make work for yourself, your temps are normal. Your ECM is looking at a bunch of sensors and if you modify the readings on one, it could cause all kinds of other problems and codes to appear.

Thanks pkazsr! I checked it out too, in the driveway. Fan kicked in at 223 and off again at 207. Thanks for the knowledge :-). This car is new for me and I have no manuel. But, I'll have aquire one and learn.
I plan on keeping it for good. My last sports car was a 81 Camaro, sold after I got out of the military in 1994.
