Depends on what signal the new speedo requires.
I put a HSR L98/T700 combo in my brothers '56 Belair and was able to run the elec speedo
in the aftermarket gauge cluster direct off the VSS signal that goes to the computer.
Previously it had it's own sender unit at the trans when a carb engine
Some speedos may require a convertor box like those made by Dakota
