hi, i know there was a thread about this probelm a few years ago but i just wanna verify, ok i have a 91 700r4 comes with a .095 reverse drum, i ordered a new reverse drum because the old one was too worn so the new one has a large sqaure hole. according to the atsg manuel the large sqaure hole drum will not work in a 91 700r4. only 93 and up ,and can retro fit early 82-87 but suposily the large sqaure hole drum will not work in late 87-92 acording to atsg manuel and i notice the 93 only has a added check ball for this large square hole drum. the place that sold me the drum said it will work in all 87 and up 700r4/4L60es. whos telling the truth here??
I just reused what i had,it was in good shape, no problems after all this years
oh well thats cool, havent buildt many of these but yea i think u would of had to get a aluminum piston and the bevivel spring in order for that drum to work. but thats good as long as ur not having a probelm
87 to 92 should be the same the 86 back match the 4l60e design
id yours has allumin piston and the one u have has a alum piston yout ok if your trans has a steel piston some one has used a older drum in yours couple tips after putting the seals on the piston coat with assembly lube or vasoline then put piston in a freezer for a hr or longer it will go in a lot easier also toss the beveled clutch put a flat steele and use the friction clutch for a 84 there .78 in stead or .70 may have to use on or to .70s get the clearence tight lot better reverse apply i done many 700 rs and 4l60es i have a tranny shop in wva if u have any questions call me 304 203 0183 josh

I just went through h3ll dealing with transmission parts suppliers. Most of those guys read catalogs on computer screens and have no idea what they are doing. My guy sold me an L60 pump cause its listed as a retrofit to the R4. NOT!! It will not interchange. I found a great knowledgeable guy at Superior Transmissions. look them up and give them a call.
What I found to be true is that most automotive parts houses are simply parts hustlers. They don't care if you got the wrong part, installed it and had to reorder a replacement. They just pull another part off the shelf and hand it over. Its how the industry works now.
This ain't the same country I grew up in.....
BTW I would NOT recommend PDQ Transmissions or TransGo out of Sacramento, Calif. Both have lousy service and prices. They're geared toward selling to rebuilders, and not individuals.

That's true , they don't care as long as they sell.
That's why i value good customer service and promote it when i can.
It's very important to do Extreme-research specially if you are overseas
i always do that before i buy something , but they got me on the 700R4 drum as well ! lol
