The orange backround on my dash is pulsing in time with my engine...feels like I'm in a "discovette", especially at night... what's up with this ?... Dan
Yeah, my 91 does it too. It's really noticable when you turn your dash lights down. I'm guessing it's normal, just like if you had a large power drawl on a system, the lights go dim. Have you noticed it mostly while the car is sitting still idling or when your out driving at speed? I think I noticed it both times.
Yes, it is more noticible at idle...as the RPM's increase the pulsing stays in time so it is less noticable but still there...I was hoping some wire just needed shielding....
That shouldn't happen. Look at the battery waveform with an oscilloscope. Some voltage regulators in the alternator oscillate at a low frequency causing your dash lights to pulse. Also, you could have a dirty connection in one of the connectors to the dash circuit boards that varies in resistance with engine shake. If your alternator is oscillating, replace the alternator or the voltage regulator.
