Default Heater core out through the firewall.

My friend has an 88, and needs to replace the heater core. He is installing a new 406 so the engine is out right now. I have replaced my core, but with the conventional stand on your head method. He was wondering out loud if it would be possible to pull the core while the engine was out by removing the clam shell around the A/C condenser and pulling the heater core that way.

So, is it possible and, or, worth doing.

Not possible.

The pipes for the core come out through two holes in the firewall.

Here's a pic from my '86 shop manual (which shows an '84 setup...oh well):

I miss the good old days, when you could pull one out of the cowl on some cars.
