Just picked up a 92 6 speed with 75k and am getting a violent shake in the rear while accelerating till about 3k and then it goes away but also happens on decelaration and a little more violent. Any help would be appreciated. I did a search and couldnt find my exact symptoms.
Take it out of gear when its shaking. If the shake continues its a bent drive shaft, or a well worn U-joint thats about to fall out, or maybe a center beam thats falling out.
If the shaking stops when you coast by taking it out of gear its then isolated to the trans & yoke.
Its easy to install drive shafts "out of tune" and forever have vibration and shaking and nobody ever goes back to look at that. Every shaft is balanced and tuned. Its up to us to look at the shaft and how its oriented to the yoke. It will have a balance weight on it somewhere.
Bent shafts are pretty common as well. All ya gotta do is drop a shaft at any speed and it'll bounce around enough to get bent. The half shafts only weigh about 1.7 lbs...so there isn't much to them.
Get it on a lift and see whats up. Look at what Lee is pointing you at, definitely sounds like something is out of balance, loose, worn out and/or about to rocket you into the woods. We can list things to look at but it will probly be obvious when its off the ground and your eyes will be the best diagnostic tool you have. Leave the car in neutral so you can rotate the wheels looking at the driveshafts. Look at suspension components for wear and definitely check the C beam bolts.
And if that doesnt work, turn off the music and maybe she will stop shakin her butt. Sorry.........
