Default what is a 'delphi' optispark

What is a delphi optispark?

Im looking at the GEN II ones...1104032, or Delphi p/n CZ20003

is this the same as AC DELCO?

Does it have the same mitsubishi optical sensor?

Are these new or rebuiilt?

I emailed the guy and he says its new, but Im not sure I can trust as everything else seems to be reman.

Ok thats the old style 92,93,94 which is still available as new old stock thru AC Delco.

Either way though, Im still curious:

was yours new or remanufactured ?

Did it have the 'mitsubishi' symbol on the optical sensor?

Did you look sideways at the reluctor ring and spin it, making sure the ring wasnt 'warped' (look many of the other knock-off brands, including the 'Summit' brand optispark)

Yep Delphi is/was a major supplier to GM. Dont know if they are still in existence because one small Delphi factory I know closed down.

Ok. Yeah I want the mitsubishi grade optical sensor.

Mitsubishi makes the better sensors for these units.

Mitsubishi sensor was oem on the units

........... You have been posting a LOT about Opti Sparks lately ... this may seem off topic a little BUT hear me out ... my daughters '99 Mercedes ML320 would not start recently ... distributor-less ignition , crank with no spark ... me being old school and it being high-tech German I was stumped ... my on-line searches all pointed to a circuit board issue UNTIL she commented that earlier that day her security system ... keyless entry fob ... would not let her in the car ... that was my Ahah ! moment ... I changed the battery in the fob and then had to reprogram it by pushing different buttons five times while cursing in German and the car started like it never had a problem ... later when she picked up her car she was delighted that the PKE worked from 30' away ... the past few weeks she needed to be standing at the drivers door to get it to unlock ........ perhaps your problem is VATS or PKE related ? .... dunno ... just saying .........

I appreciate the other line of thinking. I dont think VATS is the issue because I have it disabled (I tune it myself) in tunerpro ($DA2 definition file for my 93).

VATS was another thought too, because I also rebuilt the steering column at the exact same time as I did the optispark. It would have been easy to break one of those thin wires.

However, like I said, I have it disabled and also the car actually would run for 2 minutes, then shut down and not restart until cooled down 6 to 7 hours later. After going through this sequence (over the course of a few days), it now wont start period.

Fuel pressure is good at 38 psi - from my in cabin readout.

I have a lot of posts about this lately because I have a broken car sitting in the garage, that I recently put $3000 in heads and camshaft mods into.

Im watching every crotch-bike and everyone else's waxed up c4 drive by.

I have to get this corrected.

I found it hard to believe that a brand new part is bad, but it is.

I started with the ignition control module, replaced it with a known good unit, and still had issues.

I next ran up through the FSM diagnostic procedures which has you checking the ICM, signal to the ICM (to fire the coil), optispark power, ICM power, optispark ground, ICM ground, and the coil itself.

The signal to the ICM (to fire the coil) was absent. Ive done this test before (previous opti) and know what to look for.

Delphi is supposed to be a nice piece, but I've had so many bad optis over the years that the only ones I recommend are the GMPP opti (pretty sure it's still available), Dynaspark (think they're out of business), or a new MSD. I'm using the msd now and I'm very happy with it.

it is. funny you mention, I did forget to plug in oil temp sensor (above the oil filter, in the oil filter adapter assemnly).

This prevented it from going into closed loop mode and was causing me to scratch my head why it isnt going to closed loop mode.
