If I'm seeing this right...one looks like it goes to the lamp on the lower dash hush panel that covers all that stuff...
parking brake wire goes on a switch under one of the 2 covers on the brake lever assy..and the rest...(guessing) on the brake switch for either cruise, start safety switch or VATS IF the wire has 2 smaller strands inside the sleeve.
The wires you're holding are for the VATS contacts that read the resistor pellet in the ignition key. On my car that connector plugs into another cable that has yellow and gray wires, which go to the VATS module.
Yes, the one I'm holding does have the two wires inside. This has been disconnected since the day I bought the car, so is it safe to assume it has a VATS bypass installed? How can I tell for sure?
The Purple and White ones (to the right of the one I'm holding) are not the kick panel/knee bolster bulb, that is present but out of the picture.
This is what that connector looks like on my car. When a VATS resistor bypass is done, the wiring on the left is unplugged and the VATS bypass resistor is plugged, soldered, wired, whatever into the connector or wires on the right:
There is also a VATS module bypass, which involves replacing the module with a new one that simulates the VATS signal to the ECM and operates the VATS starter relay.
A third type of VATS bypass is to eliminate the VATS test in the ECM firmware and then bypass the VATS starter relay either by cutting and soldering wires on the relay connector or connecting a jumper across the relevant relay connector pins.
