Error code 43 is knock sensor or ESC (Electronic Spark Control) module failure. The ECM advances the spark an extra 20 degrees at startup and checks for knock counts from the ESC module. If it doesn't see at least two knock counts it will set error code 43.
The knock sensor is screwed into the block in front of the starter. This is what a new knock sensor looks like (with new connector on the left):
The ESC module is mounted on the firewall on the passenger side next to the HVAC blower motor (also check the connectors and wiring):
