Default Exhaust problem

I have some cheap "high performance" mufflers on my 89. The rest of the exhaust is stock. I recently got an exhaust leak just behind my muffler on the left side under a heat plate (?). I have to replace the rear Y from my cat to the mufflers. My question is what size is that Y pipe? Should I just replace that one with a 2.5 inch pipe if the stock size isn't 2.5in? Or just get a whole new cat-back system? My future plans for the exhaust is a high flow cat and either headers or a 2.5in front Y without precats. Thanks.

For anyone who's gonna keep and enjoy their Vette,
I'd say go Cat back.
If you change your cat,( I can see the flames comin')
go with a good quality stock replacement.
I was told this by someone who sells "hi-flow"
converters. I can't say who 'cause he'll get in trouble if it
gets out.
The stock type of converter will flow very well. The ones that
don't are the older ones that appear wide and flat. Those are
called,"bead-bed" converters and they do choke you up.
The kind that came on your C4 are "monolith" and flow
very well. Buy a good replacement and use the change
towards another mod.
Just my opinion.

Definitely go with a good cat-back system, at least 3" into dual 2 1/2". My TPIS cat-back is 3 1/2" into dual 3".

Thanks guys. I know this is a dumb question but what is 3in into 2.5 in dual. Is it where it splits? 3in then splits into 2 2.5in then into the muffler right?

Tim89,you're correct on that description.

65Z01, how do you like that TPIS cat-back?
Is it loud or otherwise?
