Hey guys. So the last three or four times i've washed my 1992 vette It started to make a funny thumping sound. The sound sounded like it was either comming from the rear driver wheel well or from under the car right behind me. Generally it only made the sound durring decereration, not durring coasting or acceleration. The sound does get faster with my speed, and stops at about 5mph. Once the car has dried off the sound compleatly stops. Help would be awesome.
P.S. Ive only had the car for about 2 months, so anything becides the thumping sound I need to know would be appreciated.
Tires can also make those sounds...check the tires because when a tire blows on a Corvette it can take the fender with it. Sometimes it is hard because you can't feel or see a problem with a tire while it isn't spinning. Just had that with my C3. If you don't know, take it to a tire specialist.
Maybe it just doesn't like being washed or it is all bent out of shape because you didn't wax it. Seriously no matter what it is check the date codes on the tires 5 years max and timed out after that. For a trailer queen that only goes to car shows it does not matter but for a driver it matters a lot.
I see how it could be a U-Joint or a bubble in the tire or a bent rim. But what I don't understand is how washing the car affects the sound. It has rained and the car hasn't made the noise. I guess after work today I'll be taking the wheels off to see what I can see. Oh and btw the tires are only a year old and they are G-Force Super Sport A/S.
