Major Electrical/Battery/Car Stereo Problem
I'm a car stereo guy. I have installed the same system in every car I've owned, from a Ford Probe to a Mitsubishi Eclipse to a Chrysler LeBaron.
After buying an 85 C4 last week and installing all my stereo stuff in the exact same manner as always, I turned on my Vet and it immediately shot me into reverse, pushing through the E-brake and even the brake pedal. I turned it off just in time before hitting a wall. Soon after I turned it off, the battery started smoking. It eventually cooled down, so I disconnected it and went to bed.
Today, I did some small troubleshooting. All my stereo fuses were fine. My ground point for my amp and capacitor were fine. The battery, however, seemed dead. So I went to the store and picked up a new one.
I connected the new battery and DID NOT connect the amp/capacitor power cable to the battery. I just wanted my sweet Vet to start! As soon as I connected the battery, immediately a loud humming/buzzing noise came from near the engine. After a couple minutes the buzzing went away, so I got in the car to start it up. But as I turned the key, the car shot in reverse with each attempt for the engine to turn over! But alas, it never actually turned over.
WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON!!!
