I will look this procedure up my Helm's, but I'm curious about experiences. If I had to replace my starter, which I think I do, how much of a pain in the a-- is it?
What are the steps in involved, and about how much time?
What makes you think the starter is going bad? I don't think is it that bad of a job. only time I have had my starter out was when I pulled the motor..
I'm surprise you didn't hear it when I started it to leave last night. The funny thing is it didn't do it any of the times we had to stop and start the car to get the comms to work
some guys think it's either loose housing or the bendix.
I'm assuming I'll probably at least have to drop the exhaust on that side.
Not 100% sure but maybe not.. I think the Cat is far enough back that it will not be in the way. I reinstalled my starter AFTER the headers were in..
On a stock LT1 exhaust, you DO NOT need to remove the Cat to get to the starter. Piece of cake job....30 minutes max.
Also, get it rebuilt at a local starter/alternator repair facility and save big bucks. I had mine done for $91 and it looked brand new on the outside and has been working just fine for the past 2 years.... :yesnod:
Stock LT1 exhaust. Piece of cake. I just changed my starter yesterday while it was still hot (1 hr after I turned it off). It took less than an hour.
I put a lifetime starter on there for $160 after tax (it was a reman). It starts great. I had a dead spot in my starter where I would have to tap the key 20 times to get it over the dead spot.
