Default AC Clutch Issue

My AC crapped out on my 1988. I think I need to fix the burned ac clutch. What do I need to replace? I see a clutch bearing, a clutch coil and a clutch hub in the parts listings. Which is the part that burns up? Can I replace that piece or do I need to replace all 3? I am on a low budget and my tranny needs a rebuild, so I need to be as economical as possible.
Thanks fo your help.

why do you think its bad? is it burnt, smoked, blue from burning?

it may not be that simple....many clutches fail because the pulley forces them to turn a compressor thats trying to seize...

Often simple adjustment takes care of the problem. A business card gap between plate and hub is as much as you want.
IF you can rotate the compressor with a wrench, try to adjust. Its just the hub/plate. The coil simply generates a magnetic field that pulls the plate against the hub...and you have rotation.

IF your clutch is just sitting there...doing nothing and there is no evidence of burning or friction damage from slipping, then it might be the BCM that operates the clutch circuit only IF you have opt 68 elec air.

It was smoking and it smells burnt. I see little pieces of debri behind the pulley. So I think it is toast.
