Distributor install questions
anyway.........
I marked the firewall where my rotor was pointing before I pulled it out. But when I put the distributor back in it was off around 30 degrees. I did not bump, turn or otherwise start 'er up. I dont see how the oil pump shaft could have moved. Looking at the bottom of the distributor and the top of the oil pump shaft, there is only two ways it could go in.
1) the way it came out
2) 180 degrees from the way it came out
So, picking it up and moving it a tooth will not work.
I did a search here and found mention of......eveytime you go to install the distributor , the oil pump shaft rotates approx. 30 degrees.
I'm sure I can stick a screw driver down the hole and rotate the shaft in an effort to get my rotor pointing to where it once was.
Am I missing something here or is that what I have to do.

Also....
If you have the rotor where you beleive it should be, have somebody bump the starter a few times (without starting the engine!!!) while you press down on the distributor housing. Keep your hands away from the rotor, but it will drop the dist right onto the shaft. :)
