Default Fx3

My 90 vert has the FX3 system, Anyway the service ride control light came on yesterday. Then the wife and I go for a drive today and the light never came on. What is the next step? Is there a way to test the shocks? The shocks have almost 33000 miles on them, They are the originals.

Next question, The tire pressure sensors, Are they rebuildable? To tell you the truth I dont care if that system works or not, I just dont like the light coming on. It dont come on all the time just most of the time. What are you guys doing about that problem. I wonder if they can be changed to the valve stem sensors?

A couple things come to mind.

I have the light come on if you start it 3 times without moving anywhere or if you have disconnected the battery. Once moving it goes away.

I have also had the light switch on constantly and found out the servo motor on one of the shocks had fallen off (missing clip). Fitted a new clip and it fixed the trouble. The front motors are quite easy to visually check (on top of the shock) if there is something.

Tire pressure system? On a '90?

It wasn't available until the LT cars came out '92 - '96, so someone must have retrofitted it.

As for the FX3 system, there is a guy who rebuilds the shock actuators using METAL parts instead of plastic. They run about $125/ea., but since you can't even find them anymore, it is really the only choice you have beside Fleabay...and even then you don't know what you're getting.

I had one of mine (front) break last week. It did the same as yours...it would come on and then go out the next time I started the car...it did that for a couple weeks and then it wouldn't go out. After pulling the actuator it was fairly obvious what was wrong.

Sending both fronts in to get rebuilt this week...will do both rears when one of them goes out.

Not on mine...or if so it wasn't available with the Z07 package.

Only options I had available were:

2 tops (choice of clear color)
Radio system (Bose gold or basic)
A/C system (base or electronic)
Engine block heater (NOT needed in Texas)

I remember going over it on their computer system when I ordered the car...I had every option available except for the block heater for my car.

Pressure monitor never made it on the list.

where did you send your shocks? Will they be rebuilt with metal gears?

I have a 91' Z07 with TPMS. I also have the build sheets to verify.

My tpms light was on, I just pulled the bulb. With the FX3, you need to determine which aprt of the system is failing. Like mentioned above, you can get the actuators rebuilt, bilstein will rebuild the shocks (with optional harder valving)

The shocks already have a metal gear on them...and as mentioned you send them to Bilstein.

Hmmm...interesting.

Not that I would have gotten it if it had been available on the screen at the time, but now I sure could use it. I'm a big fan of them after having a few blowouts at speed.

Does it give you an audible warning as well?

I might look at what it would take to retrofit mine...high speed track and open road racing sure is nicer with a tire pressure warning when they start getting low.

There was a thread on the tpms sensors a while back, and it's not a very good/reliable system. It's getting increasing hard to find the individual wheel speed sensors as well, as they're no longer made.

My light was on since I got the car and my wheels/tires never leaked, but I'm assuming theres just a low pressure warning light. I have since removed them and pulled the bulb when I switched to zr-1 replicas.

Well, then I guess 20 year newer technology is gonna win out in the end

A bunch of great ones on the market that can be retrofitted.
