94 48K miles. Brought to Vette Docter on Long island for oild leak. Turns out to be the rear main seal. While apart i was told my clutch should be replaced. Not sure why. Have had the car 3mnths but clutch seemed fine. No slipping, shifted high pedal. Just had a small noise on first shift after start up. Said it was a shaft bearing that he changed while changing the rear main engine seal. I have been searching this site and googled for clutches. There is a organic clutch I found that is manufactured by ZOOM. Is this the best after market clutch to get? I found it on the Summit Racing site. As soon as I figure out how to post an image or video of the car in repair,I will post.
I'd call Carolina clutch, and speak to them. with that low mileage, and if you drive it easy, you might just throw a disc in it. That'll get you by till the Dual Mass flywheel needs replacing.
I would be curious about the shaft bearing he is talking about. That's a transmission that is usually left to experts to repair. I'm sure he's reputable but I never heard that one before. Maybe he meant the Throwout Bearing... That rides on the transmission shaft. I am a curious person, a mechanics nightmare...
Thanks Cad....Throw in a disc? What kind of disc. Anyway I had called Carolina Clutch. They won't say who the manufacturer of the clutch is anyway. I mentioned Zoom and he said Zoom does not manufacture the Clutch kit. ... I suspect it is the same clutch from either Summit Racing or from Carolina Clutch. The Carolina one was $45 more but I ordered from them anyway. I think I have seen Carolina mentioned on this site before, you recomended them, and they had it in stock. I should get it in 2 days.. Carolina suggested changing thefly wheel if there is any play....I told himn that based on what I have read on this site about the conversions etc.. I will take my chances......I asked Vette Doctor bout why I needed the clutch. He said he would put the old one back in if I want but since we have it apart and paying for the labor I may as well put in the new one. He said he will show me the wear on the clutch, so I can see for myself. Not that I know what to look for. Maybe I should keep the old one just in case there is any problems with the new one? Thanks for the reply..
