Re: Torque on caliper mounting brackets please???????? (John Shiels)
Below is concerning 13" (J55 front brakes).
John, the later manuals have errors and nobody seems sure of the front bracket torque. The figure posted above is correct for my 89, but later manuals have it higher. From what I have seen, however the bolts for the 13" brake (J55) caliper bracket is the same across the years.
Another quandry is the bolts. The manual calls for replacement every time. I have never found if these bolts are torque to yeild or if GM requires replacement simply because of the factory installed thread lock. I bought a box of them and replace every time.
If you have replaced the bolts and brought to 130, do not re-torque. The thread lock is heat set, and you are to bring them right to torque, check once quickly and leave them alone or risk loosing the locking action.
If you have re-used the bolts, I would at least pull them and apply a high temp thread lock. However, as I said above, lacking information on torque to yeild - I replace them.
