Default Distributor cap question

I am going to change the plugs and wires on my 86 coupe, at the same time want to check the distributor cap for wear and tear. My only concern is putting it back right. Is there any chance I will have to reset the timing if I mistakenly turn the rotor while I'm taking off the cap? I do not own a timing gun, and haven't the slightest clue how to set the timing. Any ino would be appreciated.

If its like the 91 which has the same engine, then no , there is no way that u could reset the timing just by taking the cab out, u will be unscrewing only 4 small bolts to get it out using 1/4 socket while to reset the timing u need a to unscrew the big 13 or 14" nut underneath the distributor which u have nothing to do there if u just wanna change the cab

Plug and play the cap and rotor. They go in only one way. You won't mess up the timing.

Just make sure to mark the plug wires so you can get them back in the correct holes.

I can get my cap off by removing the 3 wires on the driver's side of the cap and lifting the cap up and over to the passenger side with the rest of the wires still in the cap.
