Default A/C click when on

The A/C on the '95 is clicking when it is on. I bought a can to refill the system and about four weeks later having the same problem. Been reading the service manual and not finding alot of answers. Does anyone have some guidance on what to look for next.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Is the compressor clutch engauged and the compressor running or is it cycling on and off? What clicks?

that is where my skills are weak. When standing on the passanger side, it sounds like it is coming from the area of a silver looking can. could be the unit cycling on and off. I do know that the AC is still blowing out cold (if that helps).

How many seconds are there between clicks. Is it like 5 or 10 seconds or is it a lot quicker?

Sounds similar to a problem I'm having. Watch the face of the compressor and have someone turn the AC on. You should see the compressor clutch get pulled in and then start spinning along with the compressor pulley. If it cycles (gets pulled in and then releases and keeps doing this) you probably are low on freon. Since you said the problem went away for a while after a re-charge and then returned after a few weeks, I'd bet you have a leak. If you have a guage connected to the LP side (NOT THE HIGH SIDE) you will probably see the pressure fall to the point that kicks the clutch out due to low pressure on the system. Then the pressure will probably increase, the clutch re-engage, the pressure fall off again and kick out the clutch again and then repeat. If it gets low enough, it won't engage at all.

I would say it is about every five second-ish. I do know that the click did occur when putting the refill in the gauge was at the lowest at the click. With a leak is there a trick to locate or do I need a new system?

A 95 is R134a refrigerant. You are probably low on it and have a leak. You'll need to add dye and recharge if none is in the system. Then use a black light and yellow glasses to locate. If a bigger leak you might see the oily residue on the lines/hoses.

Suggest taking it to a shop and have the AC checked since you state skills are weak. The refill cans I have seen have a gauge on them that will tell you if the system is low. Does sound like you have a leak. Could be anywhere from a loose connection or O ring to a hole in the condenser coils or the compressor seals have failed. All of which will either require dye added or a electronic leak detector to find. Shops have the electronic leak detectors which will find the leak within a minute. Hopefully it is not the compressor as those things are quite expensive....
Good luck and let us know what the solution turns out to be.
