Need some help w a waterpump replacement, the waterpump went smooth but my ac compressor was taken out for the job and i cant seem to get the electric fan to work properly again. There were a few electrical connections on the compressor one toward the front of the car and one to the back this one to the back i think helps control the fan telling it the the ac is on or off? This connection when i got to it was heat warn and already chipping but it happened more as i continued to mess with it are there any other options beside replacing the ac compressor to get the fan working properly and my car back on the road?
There must be a ground wire off or something. I believe the fan should come on when the AC is turned on. Check the fan coolant sensor that is between the #6 and 8 plug(pass. side) and make sure the wire is plugged into it. That sensor turns the fan on when the coolant temp reaches a certain temp, like 222 or more. You should be able to ground that wire and the fan should turn on. If not check your connection at the fan itself and also check the fan relay.
The fan should come on through the fan relay when either the coolant temp gets to about 238 deg. F. or the a/c pressure sw. closes. (key on) Shorting the temp. sensor to grnd. should operate the relay which should operate the fan. If the relay does not operate check the fan fuse. If the relay operates but the fan doesn't, check for 12v. on the blk/red wire and the red wire on the relay. If 12v on red but not on blk/red replace relay. If no 12v on red need a new fusible link..
Thanks for the help ill check the ground n ill let it warm til over 238degs but the fan does run ..... it runs non stop from the time i even turn the car to ON it doesnt have to be turned over. I have got my hands in there enough to mess with the connection on the back of the compressor n in certain spots itll stop the fan from just free spinning for no reason when the car is cold at that point i would let the car warm and not see any action from it. My next step is buying a new or used compressor n hoping its that one bad connection
If the fan comes on as soon as you turn the key to on then either the relay is stuck on, the ac pressure sw. or the coolant temp is shorted, or a PO wired it that way..
