Default Vortech oil drain in pan

I picked up a C4 Vortech kit for an LT1 and the instructions say to run the drain to the driver's side and put the pan fitting there. It would be much easier in my installation to drop it straight down and tap into the passenger side of the pan providing a much steeper angle for the drain hose. Is there anything wrong with putting the fitting on the passenger side of the pan? Windage issues, etc?

The oilpan dropps right off with starter remove and oilfilter adapter...
Just as long as its all downhill I dont see why it would matter, the proper weld in bungs are availe.

do a weld-in bung on passenger side.

No reason you cant do it in the passenger side. thats where I have mine!

Now, you want the bung to be just ABOVE the oil level at max fill. Definitely not below the oil level.

The way to verify this is remove the pan (youll need to do that anyways to weld the bung properly) and fill it with 5 quarts? of water so you can see where the liquid level will be at. Mark right above there and thats where the oil bung should be.

In fact, if you dont want to do all this, I have my stock pan w/ a welded bung (on passenger side) from blowerworks. You would need to buy the return hose barb fitting (that matches the bung on mine) from greg@blowerworks. I removed this pan so I could put on a canton road race 7 quart pan. Id sell it for $60 + shipping. It worked great and did not leak.

Finally, route your return hose (if possible) such that it doesnt have any low spots (any points where oil needs to travel uphill to get to the oil pan).

If you cant do that, then you might need to put a dab of RTV silicone on the bung fitting and barbed hose end female fitting. This will prevent leaks.

Good luck!

Thanks for the help. Actually, the kit I bought had a pan with the fitting welded in on the passenger side but it was naver run. I have a 7 quart TPIS pan that I'm going to use so I'll weld the fitting in that. Thanks
