Do I have to have a spring compressor to change the lower ball joints? On other cars with coil springs, I've just put a jackstand under lower control arm, and the weight of the car keeps the springs compressed. Has anyone done a C4 this way?
Re: Question about removing lower ball joint... (jimbos86vette)
I just used a jack with a pretty big jack pad on it. Put the jack on the lower A arm and then undid the shock. After that, I lowered the jack and took out the balljoint with a ball joint presser that I borrowed from AutoZone's loan-a-tool program. I uh, slightly adapted their press for my needs ;)
(Note: I took off a lot more stuff than just "unbolting the shock" but I just wanted to emphazise that I unbolted the shock first so there was no tension in the system when I lowered the jack). Good luck, -Matt-
