Can't seem to remove the steering column from my 86 vert. I removed the 2 nuts the hold the column to the firewall, removed the 2 bolts that hold the column to the instrumet panel along will all the connectors.
I finally removed the pinch bolt and thought I could just pull the column out.
It's still stuck to something and I can't figure it out. I don't want to pound on the intemediate shaft since I know that will hurt the column.
Could it be glue holding it in or a gasket maybe? I've pulled prety hard and it won't go. Considerig rigging up a winch but that's probably too much ...
There may be some adhesive or gasket material at the flange to firewall mating surface. Also, the joint between the intermediate shaft and the forward end of the steering column shaft is often seized together, so you may need to hit that with some penetrating oil. Also be sure all your wiring is disconnected before pulling too much, if you haven't already done so. There's several connectors -- turn signal, ignition, high beam switch.
