Well I've had the vette about 2 weeks and noticed yesterday it was running unusually hot. I turn the air on and it does come down, anyway Sunday the car took some abuse I took everyone and their mother for a ride and when I got home and turned her off she started to steam on the left side. The engine compartment was very hot. I spit on the engine and it boiled! I understand the boiling point is 212 but should the outside of the engine get that hot? There is a steep dive in my driveway so I don't know if that had anything to do with it? Today I got 2 check engine lights one in the morning and one in the evening- very light driving. Each time I turned the car off the light went off. Is this typical or did I blow something up? Can I pull the engine codes when even if they are not still lit?
Start it. Let it sit. The temp will go right up to but not above the little red-line on the gauge. The fan will kick on on its own. You'll start to freak thinking "this fan's never going to come on". It will. It just reads higher on the gauge than we are used to in "normal" cars. I even took it to my mechanic when I first bought it for the exact same problem. He did the above example.
