Rebuilding my L98 Help!!!
Heads are like new!
I must replace:
Crankshaft, Rods, Water pump, oil pump, rings and maybe a set of new pistons.
I must stay in a low budget, so I’m searching on low budget good replacement parts.
This is my first and the most important question:
Could I use a SCAT stock replacement Cranckshaft (1 piece rear seal P.N.
9-10526) ?
see: http://www.scatcrankshafts.com/stock...tcranks02.html
It is advertised as Standard replacement factory balanced and ‘READY to mount out of box’.
Is this a correct cranckshaft to use in my L98?
I need also a set of rods in the $200 / $250 range. Eagle rods are a good choice? SCAT Rods are best?
Wich bearings ??
I need also a set of std. Rings.
If I need a new set of pistons, wich pistons are the best to achieve performance and reability?
Wich water pump?
Wich oil pump?
I need also a set of gaskets with heads gaskets (correct thikness and correct material to stay between iron and aluminium), manifold gasket, oil pan gasket, water pump seals, and all seals, oring, gaskets engine related.
Where I can buy all these parts?? Salle Chevrolet? Summit racing?…. I need to buy all parts only from one seller due to freight charges from USA to Italy.
Thanks
Beppe.
I need an answer about the cranckshaft.....
the Scat 9-10526 -1 piece rear seal- is good for my L98????????:cry

My question is allways the same...: Could I use a SCAT Stock replacement Crankshaft? You can se this crank at: http://www.scatcrankshafts.com/stock...tcranks02.html
part is 9-10526 1 piece rear seal.
Thanks
Spend a few bucks on good valve springs that are matched for the cam you want to run.
Summit is selling a line of cranks from CAT they are OEM parts too, the cast crank is $190 and the rods are $190 but again I dont know anything about them use mostly Eagle or other brands.
The LT1-LT4 rods are really good rods too and they dont cost that much.
Clevite77 are good bearings, I would say that the hypereutectic pistons are what you wont they are a little better then stock.
I would call Summit Racing I think they have all you want in a rebuild kit, it may not be the Scat crank and rods because they have a line them self but sometimes you can ad to the kit and take out of it too.
Hope this helps a little.

In addition to Summit, I'd check out www.flatlanderracing.com as they have everything you need and some nice rotating assembly packages starting at $500.
Crankshaft- The Scat crank is a really good choice if you're on a budget; they have a good reputation. The 9000 series is a nice upgrade from their stock replacement line.
Rods- Eagle, Scat, Proline forged I-beams are all decent. If you change pistons also, I'd go for 6" rods.
Pistons- cast or hypereutectic from TRW or KB depending on budget, pressed pin. You didn't say what kind of mileage you have, but as long as its apart I'd replace the pistons. Have you checked cylinder bore size / roundness?
Rings- Sealed Power moly
Bearings- Clevite 77 P-series
Oil Pump- Melling, Milodon, etc; as long as you've heard of them. Use standard volume, high pressure
Gaskets- can't go wrong with Felpro; use the 1010 head gasket with copper rings for alum heads.
Water Pump- Stewart, Proline, or GM; make sure it's reverse rotation for serpentine belt.
Bolts- get new ARP head and main bolts.
Timing Set- Milodon, TruRoller; make sure it's for 87+ engine with roller cam!

Thanks,

found the part number for the 383 crank which is listed at $349.95 (I know, I know, it is not the cheap $200 crank)
ses-3-51-05-002
1986 and up 350 with 1 piece rear main seal.
I would have to look into an older summit catalog to find the part number for the 350 crank.
