Cam timing
Is it possible for the timing chain to have jumped a tooth while a previous owner had the car and he adjusted the distributor to make it run. Then when I have the car it jumps back? I'm putting on a new timing set and it seems as if the distributor is in exactly the same place it was before I got started(which is clearly past it's mark).

I can't imagine that happening, what's more likely is the dist. was dropped in a tooth or two off. The necessary compensation was to jump the plug wires in the towers to make up for it. That'll work OK, but you'll lose room when you want to rotate the dist. to time the motor.
