Default Convertible Hatch

I have a 1991 Convertible and now the hatch will not open to put the top down (better then being stuck down). I push the release button and both sides click but only one side releases. If I pull the manual release for the stuck side, it clicks, but still will not open.. Help...

Use the buddy system, once it clicks have a helper pull the hatch up.

Actually the correct answer is reach around latch and pull lower post backwards. Once I did that the hatch opened right up and I was able to observe that the cable release system and manual replease components all fell off. Once reattached and put a new 5/16" Push Nut on hatch works great.

This made me check the other side and the push nut was working it's way off too. So for all you convertible owners, might want to add checking those push nuts from time to time.

They are 5/16" and go on the top lug for hatch release. There are two studs on Latch, one 5/16" and one 1/4" below. Manual release goes on 1/4" stud, then Nylon washer on top 5/16" stud, then Release cable bracket, then 5/16" Push Nut on top stud.
