Anyone know if there is a proper way to push back the rod/piston assy on a clutch slave cylinder. I'm fairly certain that at some time, some one () pressed the cluth pedal in the car with the slave out. It may also not help the car has been sitting like this for about 7 years.
I tried to open the bleeded and press the rod but it would not move at all?
Remove the cylinder from the bell houseing [two bolts] and you should be able to push the rod back in the slave by hand.Check the rod,if it came out becouse it sliped off the fork it may have bent the rod and this will need to be fixed.Hope this helps
The entire unit is already out, the braided line is still attached so I can push the rod, but it simply will not move.....is there any reason it could be stuck? The boot is a little torn, I almost feel like since its out, I may as well change it, but now, Im curious as to why it wont move even if I open the cap and bleeder.

Ajs94lt1,
Albeit a PIA, might want to check the Clutch master and likely replace it too (e.g. while bleeding slave, did you have real pressure squirting out the clutch fluid? also did fluid NOT rise in clutch master reservoir after the 1st inch of pedal travel and no obvious upward squirting of fluid within the reservoir -- all indicate master seal is gone). FYI, just did mine on the 94 LT1, could only find it at NAPA, at least it was a cast one too (previous GM machined metal one seal failed in just 3 yrs.
Also, consider a cast slave and not machined metal. Most of the machined metal ones have seal problems and/or seem to die all to early. If you can find a cast one from PBR (Australia company which makes the brakes), go for it...
Lastly, be sure to use fresh fluid, and remember zfdoc.com recommends Vavoline dot3/4 fluid.
