Valve Job questions?
Looking to rebuild a mild engine. Just a little better than stock:)
I went to check on price for the valve job yesterday.
Price: $185 for a regular valve job which includes the 3 angles valve. Plus $75 if the heads need resurface, decking?.
$275 for high performance valve job which includes the regular and spring setting. I have to provide cam spec. to the machinist for the springs setting. Same $75 extra if need resurface.
What is all this means? Is it worth it to have the spring set for an extra $100. What does it do to the engine? Do i need this hi performance job for a regular 355 CI engine?
With 145K mile, I assume you guy recommend to replace with new and better spring. If I do need new springs, what brand/how much/where (summit racing?).
Bottom end. What do I need to do beside have the shop hot bath ($60); 0;30 bore out the cylinder walls and maybe shave/hone the crankshaft (don't know the correct procedure name). What about cam, if nothing wrong with it I will reuse the cam. I think he said $60 to put the cam bearing in...
What brand should I buy for the pistons and rings? Do I need to buy new piston rods? What about main bearings which brand do you like?
TIA
not sure of which parts are best, as I am doing an LT1, and all the stuff is different... but I'm sure your parts will be easier, and more of a selection, and cheaper too.
Good Luck
The other shop gave me a quote of $150 standard valve job without 3 angles valve. Also, this shop was recommend by a Hot Rod neighbor. He said they're not cheap but do very good work.
Anyone has recommendation for a good machine shop near Trenton, NJ and Bucks County, PA near Oxford Valley Mall?
