Default 86 EGR valve replacement

the service manual isn't helping me much so i'll ask here. Is the replacement of the EGR valve do able in the driveway? or without removing anything else? I don't have a good idea where it is located on the right front of the engine. any help is appreciated.

thanks,

John

The EGR valve is under the plenum toward the rear of the engine. You have to take a lot of parts off to get at it. Not a small job on the L-98.

But,
If you are enterprising, take the distributor cover off, then the bolts that hold the plenum, and the accordion tube to the air filter, the water hose under the plenum, and the vacuum lines, front and rear on the plenum, and disconnect the throttle cables.
Slide out the plenum.
Then with a 6 corner 10mm socket and a universal, use a 3/8 ratchet, and change the EGR valve.
Use new gaskets going back on and new antifreeze,
It should take about 3 hours for a novice, and an hour for someone who does this regularly.
and yes you can do it in the garage. or in the driveway.

The biggest headache is the very brittle and fraigile plastic vacuum lines under the plenum. Break any of those, and you are back to 3/64" vacuum hose.
