Last night I took my 1986 out for a short drive. I parked it and went inside for a while. While indoors it started to rain. I waited until the rain stopped before leaving. This is where the problems began.
I started the car and backed out of the driveway. The car at that point started to run poorly and lacked power. I was able to move the car about 75 feet and then it stalled. I couldn't get it to start again. I thought perhaps moisture had found its way into the distributor. For some reason I decided to disconnect the maf from the air filter. That is when a bunch of gas poured out of the maf...an area of the car that isn't supposed to have fuel in it. I disconnected the vacuum hose from the fuel regulator and there was fuel in the hose...not good.
I had the car towed on a flatbed back to my house. When I got it there I could hear noises inside the car. It seemed to be the doors opening and closing in the HVAC. I then noticed that the drivers seat had re-adjusted itself.
I am going to look into the electrical system. The only thing that I can think of is that the wiper motor or something else with electrical grounded itself out and caused other problems.
Possibly the ecm is ailing? Or, one issue that crops up is poor grounding somewhere, as the many of the circuits use low voltages. You would need a diagram to track down all the grounds, or a member who has knowledge of the wiring layout. Agent 86, perhaps?
Is the '86 maf sensor in the air snorkel? If so, I can't figure how gas could get from the fuel rail, out thru the throttle body, even with an injector issue.
this may also be insane but have the alternator tested. My voltage regulator was bad and my car did all kinds of crazy stuff. The radio would stay on, one window would not work, and so on. Just a sugestion
I just tried to start it. It tried then nothing. I looked and fuel is coming out of the fuel pressure regulator at the vacuum port. Looks like I will be rebuilding that this week.
