1984 TPS test?
So, today while pouring over my parts store Chilton book again I decided to test the TPS(just about the only thing left original on the car(startabily circuit)).
I followed the instructions in the book and got 4+ volts at idle position and it dropped gradually and smoothly down to just under 1 volt at WOT. This is opposite to what the book says it's supposed to do. The book says .5 volt at idle and 5 volts at WOT.
Did I find the problem or do I have a backwords system?
With gratitude,
Bill

So, the advise "it's 28 years old go ahead and change it" has cost me a lot of time and money. The best advice I've found in these forums was something to the effect of "figure out what's wrong before you go changing parts." Another great piece of advice was "get the factory shop manual to help you figure it out."
I'm not writing this just as a reply to a previous message but more importantly as advice to future readers. That way they won't be steered down the costly path that I took to get my car fixed. From now on I'll only take the advise that tells me how to figure something out, which there is plenty here, and never "just replace it" advice.
