Suspension light came on,codes 23,31,43;they cannot be cleared, checked per shop manual, leads me to replace the control module which is $1600.00 list price. I would prefer to keep and fix the FX3 system but that is a lot of dough. Anyone have ideas on what could be the problem? Is it common for these modules to fail?
Jim B. :D
23 is common if you have turned the ignition key to on, but not started - three times in a row.
31 is left front out of position
43 is selective ride switch out of position or open, make sure it is centered.
Make sure control is on a detent, start and drive car for a while. Then reset codes by removing battery negative cable for a minute or so. Sometimes this does not reset FX3 codes so you have to ground terminal A and B on the ALDL in a very exact fashion: Connect A to B for 2 secs, disconnect for 2 secs; do this three times perfectly with 2 secs between and it will reset.
Pete,
I tried to clear the codes at the ALDL as described in the shop manual, also tried to disconnect the module and the battery cable, codes still will not clear. Checked power and grounds at the module connector, all look good. The module will flash the 12 code and failure codes but will not clear the codes. I am stumped.
Jim B.
One guy last year, it took him many times to get that 2 second timing right to clear the codes from the FX3 controller. I also remember that he could not clear the codes by disconnecting the battery, but not sure this was an early FX3.
If you can't clear and follow the proceedure in the manual to check on each code, it seems the problem is the controller. Replacements are available, on a budget talk with Contemporary Corvette for used. I'd try Jeff Koop to see if new or rebuilt is available. Doug Ripey I'm sure has units available.
Work the service manual carefully and follow the steps and see what happens. Step by step.
UPDATE: The car is fixed. Thanks to Pete and Jeff for their help. The codes were cleared after several attempts at getting the on/off timing correct when grounding the ALDL. The problem with the left front actuator was a loose shock absorber top nut! The actuator was being pushed out of position by the loose nut. Cost to fix problem....$0.00 excluding time.
Thanks again to all,
Jim B.
