Can someone point me in the right direction for any publications that would be helpful while attempting to build my first motor. I have done just about everything else except build a motor. Im looking to build a 383 for my 92 as a winter project.

Thanks
I don´t believe there is a precise answer about this. Sure there are many good books around. I build my own stroker last winter (http://thomas-chevy-c4.blogspot.no/) and I changed direction of the build a few times after reading articles on web and talking to other engine builders. Sure you can read a lot from books/articles - but my best advice is talk to others experience builders and compare answers. My originally plan was to bore/hone my own block (LT1). I ended up buying a short block from US. This build was my first ever and I am very happy I decided to start build on a short block assembled by a experienced workshop in US.
I suppose you have a gen II SBC (LT1). I would recommend converting to a dowel pin driven opti (LT4). There are more options regarding timing chain (like heavy duty timing chain) for the LT4.
Anyway - good luck with your plans/build. My build took many hours (not only hours to build) investigating options and I also ended up with some parts not needed due to lack of experience.
There are several others. Also check your local book stores.
If this is your first build keep it simple, get to know your machine shop folks and listen to what they have to say. You can waste a bunch of bucks if you are not careful.
This one is extremely well written with lots of pics. It covers the fundamentals that you need as well as more advanced information. Click on the pic and it takes you to the Summit website. Amazon also sells it.
