I had placed a post about a week ago about a noise comming from the Alternator/Pow steering pump area. Well, I noticed the serp belt was actually off the grooves in the pulley. I have a 93 Late mod which has a double grooved belt (Grooves on both sides of the belt). The prob actually occured when I started it one morning. Could a new belt be the prob? (mabye the one I have now is getting streched out? a lil loose) Or could it be the tensioner?
I bought a serp belt removal tool (Made life soooo much easier) and I loosend the tensioner and put the belt back on the grooves. Guess what? No Noise!! ;) and I started it over 10 times and reved and took her out for a drive and its not comming off again. Could it have been a fluke thing? Has anyone else had this happen to them? I'm wondering if any of my pulleys are now a lil off balance and could happen again.
Could be a loose pulley. Take the belt off and grab each pulley and try to wiggle it. If they are all tight and rotate easily then it was probably a fluke.
If your pulleys are lined up and spinning freely and the belt is still jumping off the pulleys you have a problem with the tensioner. You want to get this taken care of soon! Here is what will happen if you don't. The belt will start to come apart and you risk the chance of it eating a hole in the hood.
