Default LT4 cooling system capacity

I am going to drain/flush and clean my radiator this weekend! All the while being very careful to keep the Optispark dry!! My question is, what is the capacity of the LT4???? I need to know how much Dexcool to buy. Thanks all!!

Get two gallons of 100% DexCool (not the 50/50 premix stuff)

Getting all the old fluid out is not the easiest thing in the world. The factory procedure involved draining the radiator, and then pulling the 2 knock sensors out (which are threaded into what used to be called the block drains). Then refilling.

Alternatively - you can drain radiator, pour in water, run the car a while, drain the radiator again, and keep doing that until the fluid comes out almost clear, then do one final radiator drain, and add pure Dexcool to the rad, then run the car to mix the coolant throughout the motor.

If you have reason to suspect the coolant is really ugly - the block drain technique is probably the best way to go - but it isn't a lot of fun, and it is horribly messy.

When I flushed my 1992 system I removed the 2 knock sensors and it was pretty easy. Jack up the car, remove the knock sensor shields, disconnect the wires and turn the sensors out. When you remove them have a nice pan underneath the car and up close as a lot of water will come out at once. Then I reinstalled the sensors and connectors, then I refilled with water, ran the car up to temp, let it cool and did it again, about 5 times until the water statred coming out clear. It took all day but I got a lot of crud out.

If the system is empty it will take approx. 4-gallons to fill up.
