Battery flashing in DIC. WTH

Battery flashing in DIC. WTH
Well, I was cruising around and out of the blue the battery icon, red battery icon, in the DIC started intermittently flashing. Volts on dash were 13.6, in gear with AC and stereo on.
I am going to check the battery alone.
Any other suggestions, let me know your thoughts.

Mine comes on when the battery voltage goes below 11.5 volts.
I had an intermittent problem in my alternator and it was sometimes charging and sometimes not (light came on -- light went out -- light came on). It was interesting because I could see the voltage creeping up as the battery charged and then it would start going down until it got to 11.5 volts and the light would come on. I hit the alternator with a screwdriver handle when it wasn't charging and it started working.
I took the alternator apart and didn't see anything obvious so I put it back together. It has worked fine since then (3 or 4 months). I guess there was a dirty connection in there somewhere.
