There are two different tb gaskets for our l98's. I put the one with individual circular openings and the triangular opening above on my 89. The other gasket is just the single opening. The car is idling somewhat rough intermittantly. It is also climbing above 230 at idle only (to 236 max). It's hot out (*100+) but I feel I shouldn't be having this problem. That being said, I also haven't properly adjusted the TPS yet. Just half assedly. Just did a head gasket set on the car.

does ur plenum have the triangular opening on it? when i was shopping for used plenum for my 91 that normally doesnt have the tringular opening i was finding some plenums for earlier models with the traingle opening on them....if u r using felpro gaskets kit i think they normally have both types in the kit so u can use the one that fits urs better....

but either one u would use shouldn't mess up ur idle...what u r describing sounds like a vacum leak to me but i would adjust the tps and reset the computer before i would tear it up again...
I think there is a V6 throttle body kit that is similar. I got one from autozone a few years back that wasn't right, and when I took it back, they said it was for a 6. It was pretty similar, just the dimensions were off.

Its easy enough to punch out a gasket with some gasket paper...just a couple $ at any auto parts.
The triangle vs round idle air passage sometimes lets air leak past if the round hole gaket is set against the triangle port....the small "tunnels" that run along the TB side can leak. Another reason to 'wet' the gasket with anti-seize so it seals against the TB better.
