how much "disconnecting" to get distributor cap off? i just want to check condition of rotor/cap on my `87. got from dealer so i don`t know if it was serviced. plugs are new. PO probably couldn`t get air box off. found out how to do it on this site.
gently un plug the plugs on the front, gently remove the plug wires one at a time and mark them fot location, un-screw the 4 hold down screws, gently lift the cap straight up, re-install in reverse
Disconnect the power and tach wires. Remove spark plug wires for #1, #5 and #7. You can now remove the cap and lay it over on the passenger side of the engine with the rest of the spark plug wires attached.
remove radiator hoses and engine mount bolts.
remove rear axle bolts
remove shifter linkage
remove exhaust
remove gas lines
remove battery cables and other wires
when engine falls on ground have a really large friend pick up car.
distributor will be right where you can get at it.
