Questuion about ECM

I have a 93 and it looks like my ECM is bad so I'm looking at ordering a new one. The question is, is it as simple as pulling it and installing a new one or is there more to it. The reason I ask is I was told that on my truck I would have to take it to a dealer and have set for my truck. I've replaced all kinds of parts on my cars but never one of these.

I'm waiting on the ECM to get here so the last two days I went out just to let the vette run a little. Like always it starts the first thing and I was going to let it run for a while. It got up to operating temp and stalled and would barely run on restart. This was the problem but was happing at odd times and maybe days or weeks apart. Did the same thing today so it it wont be going anywhere till it's fixed.

I installed the ECM today and so far it runs great. I took up on the highway and drove city streets with no problem. After the intermittent problem I had it will take a little while before I'm comfortable driving again, but so far so good. With the old ECM there was a fast clicking coming from behind the the instrument panel when the key was turned to the on position. It was like a bad relay and I could not figure out what it was but now it's gone, so far anyway. With the ECM on the other side of the firewall right behind the instrument cluster maybe thats what was making that noise.
